Dolphin Flottilla
We set off for home and for at least an hour of the three were part of a school of dolphins. Fascinating. At least 2-300 and sometimes seemed to be 100 out of the water at once.
Travelling a little faster than us, obliquely from the sunward, shoreward side to the seaward and perfect views of the underwater stunts too for the 10 minutes or so that they were immediately under the boat. Most were only just clearing the water, nose and tail together or even less but some were more high spirited. Like fighter aircraft at an aero nautical display. Some did 1 or 2 horizontal twists while out of the water, but remained low, a few tried the same on a vertical leap, body straight and tail clear of water, descending vertically tail first or rolling sideways. Sometimes a whole flotilla would be synchronised – but never as the camera clicked. Sometimes a bunch would put on a spurt of speed – fantastic difference and leap out of the water twice or three times the length of their body instead of 1-1/2 times as usual.
